| Hotel and Lodging Management is a
role-play event. The student is given a description of a specific situation
that measures skills, knowledge and attitudes in hotel and lodging marketing
or marketing management. Students will be challenged to perform marketing
and management functions and tasks in hotels, motels, lodging services,
convention services, and food and beverage services. Roles in these events
are those of customers, employees, supervisors and managers.
The student studies the situation for 10-minutes and responds to the issues involved through interaction with a business/industry professional (judge). The role of the student and of the judge will be determined by the specific role-play situation. Preliminary round competition includes one comprehensive exam and one role-plays.
